The big idea

Students plan a campaign that carries a single message across text, image and audio, learning that creative direction — the consistent thread — matters more than any individual asset.

Why it matters

Multimodal communication mirrors how ideas actually spread now, and demands genuine planning to stay coherent.

Unpacked

What you will actually learn

Three core ideas, each taught with worked examples and then practised until it feels obvious.

01

Text-to-image

Text-to-image generates visuals from description; the quality of the description sets the ceiling on the result.

02

Image-to-text

Image-to-text works in reverse — describing, extracting or explaining a picture — and is invaluable for accessibility.

03

Creative direction

Creative direction is the through-line: consistent colour, tone and message, so four pieces read as one campaign.

Did you know?

Multimodal models convert images and text into the same internal representation, which is how one system can compare a picture with a sentence.

Common mix-up

“More formats means more impact.” Four inconsistent pieces are weaker than two that clearly belong together.

Session by session

Your 8-session journey

Sessions 3340 of the 72-session year, at two one-hour sessions per week.

  1. 1

    Warm-up and big picture

Where this module fits, what you will build, and a hands-on starter that gets everyone curious about text-to-image.

  2. 2

    Text-to-image

Guided teaching on text-to-image, worked through together with the teacher.

  3. 3

    Text-to-image — practice lab

Independent practice, small challenges and one deliberate mistake to diagnose.

  4. 4

    Image-to-text

Guided teaching on image-to-text, building directly on the previous two sessions.

  5. 5

    Image-to-text — practice lab

Applied tasks that combine text-to-image and image-to-text in one piece of work.

  6. 6

    Creative direction

Creative direction introduced and practised, completing the toolkit needed for the project.

  7. 7

    Project build

Guided build session for the module project: Cross-media campaign for a social cause.

  8. 8

    Test, present and reflect

Finish, test against the checklist, present the work and explain the decisions behind it.

Project lab

Cross-media campaign for a social cause

Every module ends with something the student built themselves and can demonstrate. This is the piece that goes into their portfolio and gets explained out loud at the end of session 40.

Try this at home

Write your campaign message in one sentence first. If any asset does not serve that sentence, cut it.

It is finished when

  • It works from start to finish without breaking
  • You can explain every part of it in your own words
  • You tested it and improved at least one thing afterwards
  • Someone else used or understood it without your help

By the end of this module

Students finishing Module 5 can:

  • Explain and use text-to-image without prompting
  • Explain and use image-to-text without prompting
  • Explain and use creative direction without prompting
  • Build and finish cross-media campaign for a social cause
  • Test your own work and correct what you find
  • Talk an adult through what you made and why
